Der Berg Ruft Post-Season periodical Issue 2

$35.00

The second issue of the Der Berg Ruft! Newspaper is here, and it’s packed with stories from some of the most infleuential figures in the Volkswagen world, showcasing the rich history and vibrant community that continues to shape our beloved car culture. This issue was born out of an incredible journey—one that took me across the globe, sitting down with legends, innovators, and unsung heroes who have played pivotal roles in the Volkswagen scene.

From Michael Koordt, the man who defined European styling in the ’90s and continues to dominate the carbon fiber industry, to Collin, the vice president of Techtonics Tuning—America’s leading supplier of performance parts for pre-2000 Volkswagens—this issue highlights the individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact on the way we modify and enjoy our cars. I had the honor of speaking with Elliot Roberts, the king of interviews at Performance Volkswagen magazine, and Mike Ngo, the owner of Eurowise, a company that has been at the forefront of engine swaps and performance upgrades for years.

But it’s not just about the big names. Issue #2 dives deep into the roots of the scene, giving space to people whose contributions may have been forgotten by some, but whose influence still echoes today. I spoke with Michael McCoy, a true pioneer, and Remy from UNIX, a current standout in the industry. I also had the privilege of chatting with Erik, the Jetta2nr himself, about his reflections on the evolving scene, and I caught up with Kale from Westy Wears to see what’s new in his corner of the world.

This issue also explores some of the cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of our cars. I had a fascinating discussion with SDG Industries, diving into the realms of lasers and 3D printing. In addition, I was fortunate to have European friends like Jonas and Lukas, two German guys I met while traveling America in a Passat that seems to never stop crossing borders, share their perspective on the global Volkswagen community.

Of course, we can’t forget the trailblazers and racing icons of the past. Wayne Richard’s memories of the old days, Andreas Klein and Isa Kleudgen’s dominance on the German tracks, and Chet’s insights as a lesser-known historian of all things Euro remind us of how far the scene has come. And there are more personal stories—Deanna Whitworth shares heartfelt memories of her brother, Joe Pendergeist a legendary drag racer we lost too soon.

I’ve also included interviews with the key players behind the most influential show on the north east of the Volkswagen world, including Johnny from Volkscrack, Matt from Eurokraft, John Vanek and Danny Mercado. And no issue would be complete without a nod to the grassroots builders—like Kevin Brennen, who’s just a regular guy building amazing cars in his garage, or Ben and Joe, the brothers from German Auto Service, who have been helping us keep our cars running smoothly for years.

Issue #2 also features the Austrian duo Marco and Marcus from Cult Drivers Garage, as well as interviews with drag racers Dan Russel and Adam Hauck, who know what it means to push the limits on the quarter mile. I closed out the issue with a special conversation with John and Jerry, two friends who have spent nearly 20 years traveling the world to attend Volkswagen shows, sharing stories from the road that every enthusiast can relate to.

Over the past five months, I’ve had the privilege of speaking with these incredible individuals, and I hope this issue resonates with you just as much as it has with me. Der Berg Ruft! is more than just a newspaper—it’s a celebration of the people, the cars, and the stories that make our Volkswagen community so special.
